As an avid Linux user myself, I use openSUSE Tumbleweed with KDE. The reason I use openSUSE is because it's a rolling release distro, which means packages are updated throughout the day and is considered bleeding edge. It's rolling like Arch Linux but the packages are QA and tested before release so it's much more stable. Plus it takes snapshots so if an update breaks things, you can revert back like it never happened.

A lot of programs for Windows have been ported to the world of Linux but not everything. And Linux is still getting better each day. What I would advise you do is if you are on Windows, download VirtualBox and create virtual machines and install different Linux distro to toy around with and you'll find the best one that suits you :)
