AOL Gold

I am a long time AOL user. I know, I know. I got a gmail account but the act of switching everything from AOL to gmail is overwhelming. I have 20 years of junk stored on AOL not to mention the emails from friends, etc.

So AOL sent me a message that soon I would be charged $3.99 per month for new, improved AOL Gold. Has anyone heard of this, is it a hoax? Reading the instructions it says that my account will exist but I will not be able to send anything from it. The $3.99 is not the issue, (well, a little bit) but the hoax factor is huge.

Has anyone heard of this?

Hi Huskevball and welcome to PCHF :)

It is true that AOL will start charging, but that's for the Desktop version of their product. This link, the official link to AOL's Desktop Gold page, explains what it does and what you're paying for. The only thing you're paying for is Two Factor Authentication and automatic updates.

Its simple to set up Gmail to pick up your AOL mail and to import all your old mail at the very least it gives you a backup of your emails and you can send from Gmail to your AOL account
