Any Wired Headset Not Working

Status
Not open for further replies.
Had an issue at work with audio not working with some Notebooks with AMD audio.

I solved it by removing the device AND the drivers from device manager and then running Windows update.
After restart the AMD audio device was replaced with something else (Realtek, I think) and the issue was resolved-see if it works for you too (the un-installation and Update).
Yeah but I don't have AMD.

I think you're misunderstanding my problem. Which is fine because this problem is quite unusual. The socket works, the headset works, the microphone works (I would assume since it is brand new), but when I plug them in, no drivers install for it, and I can't find drivers for it. They don't make their own input and output as "Astro A40..." None of that shows up. This goes for any wired headset. It always defaults back to the "Speakers/Headphones" output when I plug them in, and the microphone just stays as the laptop's built-in one.

The reason I mentioned this is due to the fact that no microphone works. This points to a problem with the microphone port.
This is why I asked how you know the microphone port works. If you have tested it & it does work then that’s fine.

Completely forgot to respond to this, my fault. Idk what you mean by microphone port as I just have a port to connect my headset with the microphone on the headset.
Does the headset have two plugs or one? If two are you using an adapter to be able to connect two plugs into one socket?
I take it that the PC has a dual headphone & microphone port.

There is a wire that came with it that has two plugs on it. It also came with a wire that works with the dual headphone/microphone port that my laptop has (which is the one I use)

Well the headphones work. They just are put under the "Speakers/Headphones" driver rather than making their own. Bluetooth does work so I guess I'll just return the A40s and get the A50s. I still do want an answer or solution on why they don't install their own drivers upon plugging in.

There’s a cable which comes with it which seems to be an inline mute cable which suggests to me that this turns the microphone off Or that there’s a switch on it which disables the mic.
Is the shortest wire between the box & plug connected into the headphones or the PC
