Android Home Screen Folder Shortcut????????

Okay so I am running KiKat 4.4.4 and I would like to put a shortcut to a folder on my home screen. I know for a fact that this is possible without installing extra apps to do it, because I did it before, but for the life of me I can't remember how I did it. I have Googled it and really all I Find is people installing an app and using that to create the shortcut, but I do not want to install additional apps, since I don't have much internal storage left and I can't save apps to my SD card. I am not rooted and am not able to root.

Nope, unfortunately that doesn't work for me. That works for a app folder but i'm need to create a shortcut to a Documents folder. I have tried long pressing the home screen and there is no option for creating folders or shortcuts, and when i go to the folder on my SD card I get the option to copy or move the folder but there isn't away to copy or move it to the home screen.

OK...this looks like the one.. http://ccm.net/faq/36375-android-create-a-shortcut-desktop-shortcut-to-a-file-or-folder

EDIT: or this
Apps
My Files
Device Storage
click the three vertical dots (menu)
- Create folder (name your folder)
-- The folder shows up in the list of device storage
Long press the folder to select it
click the three vertical dots (menu)
Add shortcut
- choose homescreen
-- now you have your folder on the home screen
My Files
find your file and long press to select
click the three vertical dots (menu)
Move
select your folder you created
Move Here
Now your file is in that folder on the home screen.

I got out the older (Lollipop) of my two tablets and neither set of directions worked. I wanted a shortcut to my Images.

I had to open File Manager. Long press Images (a tap would open the Image folder). I got a menu with 2 items: one of them was add shortcut to Launcher. That's what I had to select.
