Ok so I sold a build I made a while ago:
I5-3570K
8GB Ram
AMD Radeon 7850 2GB
1TB SSD

This is the currently Build I am using:
AMD Ryzen 5 1600x
16GB Ram
Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon 580 8GB
1TB SSD

The reason why I bring up that specific old build is because I play a lot of counter-strike and that build would push out an average of 300 fps. This current build that I am using pushes out on average 150 fps. Yes, they are all same settings, same launch options, same everything except the specs of the computer. I honestly don't understand how a quad-core 3rd gen processor can out perform a hex-core essentially 7th gen processor. Also the graphics card in the new one is a lot better than the one that old build compared to the new one. Both of those SSDs were new, so I don't know what is going on.

Any input is extremely helpful!

Thanks!

Luke <3

*Edit 1: Also there are/was the same exact background processes for both of these computers.*

*Edit 2: Just incase, here are the exact PC specs:*

Old Lan Build: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/coolhandluke_tv/saved/BLkwP6

Never heard of anyone getting 300FPS playing Counter Strike, out of a computer like you sold, with those specs.
Doesn't happen.
Yeah I know, which is why it was shocking the entire time I had that build... I used it for a lan computer, but I don't know if that was a random *** tier combination for cs or something but i would on get around 270-300 on average in that game, it would sometimes dip to 240-250 at the start of rounds, but other than that it was like 250-270. I don't feel like going back and editing it, but I mean't cs:go, not cs (Counter-Strike: Global Offensive*, not cs)*.

I was figiting with the launch options after I made this post and changed a launch option from -threads 4 to -threads 6 because its a ryzen and people recommend usings half of the total threads in the cpu for that command. Once I made that changed, it bumped the average fps to about 180, but still nothing compared to what I was getting on my old lan build.

Cheers,

Luke

*Edit 1: That old lan build was not even overclocked, nor attempted to be overclock in any way)*

*Edit 2: For both PCs I play/played on all low settings with multicore rendering on.*

*Edit 3: I was looking around on google for things related to this, but I found this about 5 minutes ago and thought I might as well post it here as well... http://steamcommunity.com/app/730/discussions/0/558755530353179131/ its a discussion about a guy with the same specs as my old lan computer, and he says he gets 240-300 fps on medium-high settings. Again, like I said before, that cpu and gpu might just be a godly combination for cs:go, but I don't understand how the current build I am using outputs half of what a 3 year old build is.*

That is certainly a strange issue. To help find a possible solution, we will need some more information.

Please download MiniToolBox and save it to your desktop. Run the program by right clicking on it and selecting Run as administrator. When the program opens select the following boxes:

Flush DNS
Report IE Proxy Settings
Reset IE Proxy Settings
Report FF Proxy Settings
Reset FF Proxy Settings
List content of Hosts
List IP Configuration
List Winsock Entries
List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
List Installed Programs
List Devices
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Please post the log in your next reply :D.

Aside from that, is there any other troubleshooting steps you have taken to resolve this issue? For example, updating the graphics drive to the latest version.

If you have performed any troubleshooting yourself, would you please list them? This saves time for us and you on getting this issue resolved :).

Your current build has roughly half the processing power as the old computer.
Nothing to compare. Crunch the numbers, Luke.
Benchmarks for a start.

As I said in your last thread, don't take everything you read as Gospel.
Gamers post to impress, quite often.
Computer age has little to do with it.
It's what is under the hood, that counts.

I downloaded the tool and this is the output file it generated:

**** End of log ****

I can upload the whole file if you want me to, but I deleted some information (all from the top of the file) just because I am a little bit creeped out by giving, what looks like, my ip address subnet mask, etc away like that. I don't even know if I deleted all of that information but oh well. If you want me to upload the file because it makes that much of a difference with my internet speeds then I will definitely do that, but I don't see my internet speeds making a huge difference in the amount of FPS I am getting in csgo and other games.

Now I if you look at my installed programs, you can see that I have CPU-Z installed. I literally just installed it about 5 minutes ago before posting this. I was looking around in it and noticed something about my ram speeds. I have the picture here for you to see: https://imgur.com/a/XFEAU . It says that my NB frequency (I'm assuming that is my ram speed) is at 1066 Mhz. The ram inside that computer is DDR4 Ram that can go all the way up to 3200 Mhz Overclocked and the motherboard I have inside the computer even supports up to 2666 Mhz. I don't know if these two things have any correlation with each other, but I thought I might as well point that out.

As far as "troubleshooting" the only real thing I have done so far is just going around my computer and make sure every setting I can find that determines quality over performance is set to performance, other than that there has been no real troubleshooting other than in-game, tampering with settings, etc. I don't think I have the latest Radeon driver installed but I will definitely update it in about 10 minutes once I finish this reply and get back to you if anything were to change.

Thanks for your help! Greatly Appreciated! :D

Luke

*EDIT 1: I looked up on google about the 1066 Mhz thing, I guess its because the ram is Dual Channel that it will show 1066 Mhz because 1006*2 is 2133? I don't know if that is correct but that is the only answer I have found so far to that. Just in case I am going to link my motherboards manual http://asrock.pc.cdn.bitgravity.com/Manual/X370 Taichi.pdf . But I currently have my ram in the 2nd and 4th ram slots of my motherboard because I interpreted the little table it shows you in the manual as that being the one to put the rams in if you want them running dual channel at a higher Mhz. I don't know if I got that part correct, but it's 5:47 a.m. and I am looking at all possible options :p*

You are right, I shouldn't take everything I read as Gospel; so please excuse my ignorance, I may be misinformed and I probably am; but if I may, can you post some links or show me where you see my old lan build having roughly double the processing power than what my current build has?

I have been reading up on benchmarks between the two processors and it looks like the Ryzen 1600x takes the cake over the I5-3570K so I just want some links so I can read up on it more just in case I am completely misinformed. I took your advice though and did some benchmarks. I even found my old benchmarks I had for my old lan build when I had it and went ahead and downloaded passmark to get benchmarks of the current build to compare. I am going to post them below the post just if you want to look at them. Now the versions of the passmark test are different because the test on the old build was done in early 2016 I think, but that is the only one I have unless I track down the dude I sold the computer to and have him do a test on it. The only thing I really saw between the two processors that showed the 3570K being better than the 1600x for, was the fact that the 3570K has an integrated graphics card while it looks like the 1600x doesn't.

here are the benchmarks just in case:
old lan build - https://www.passmark.com/baselines/V8/display.php?id=57220127895
current build - https://www.passmark.com/baselines/V9/display.php?id=90914206414

I do agree that gamers post to impress and don't really know the basics of computers and how they work. Comparing processors, processor speeds, what ram actually does, etc. If you have any information that you can send my way on these two processors then that would be great!

Thank you so much for your advice and help! :D

Nothing in this log file is worth getting creeped out by. The IP information shown is your local/private network ip. Basically these ips are for your own home network. It is how your router or other network device identifies your connected devices. It is not your public ip information. Your public IP address is the IP address that is logged by various servers/devices when you connect to them through your internet connection. That would be the ip to not just give out willy nilly.

The whole log is not just your network information, as you can later see in the log. It includes information such as your installed programs(and versions of said program), recent application errors, recent system errors, and much more. This information all helps us get a better understanding of your computer and what may be the possible cause or causes of the reported issues. At the very least it gets us started :).

DDR stands for double data rate. So you take that 800 and double so it is in fact running at 1600. (Basic example)

As for the timings, you can use the preset profile in the UEFI/BIOS which will set everything for you or you manually set the timings yourself in the UEFI/BIOS.(This does vary mobo to mobo)

Hopefully that answers everything :).

Awesome, go ahead and be sure you have the latest driver install.

While you are doing that, looking at your motherboard, it does look there is a fairly new UEFI/BIOS update. It would be best to go ahead and do this aswell.

Just be sure your computer stays on during the entire process. You can get the latest BIOS update and tool from your motherboard makers website here -
https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X370 Taichi/#BIOS

They have a great guide on how to perform the update. I do suggest reading this guide before performing the update.

For the BIOS update, it has a bunch of them listed there. Do I just flash to the latest one? Or do I have to go one by one until I reach the latest update?

Be very very careful, Luke. Do it wrong, and you can destroy your motherboard.
I know, I have flashed motherboards before. I already flashed mine and updated it. It went well! I just didn't know if I had to do update 1.whatever then update 2.whatever before I could do update 3.whatever. :D

About to play some games and see if it changed anything!

It would be the latest BIOS update that you need to update to. They do have them listed by date.

If you have already done so, be sure you do my other suggestion and update the graphics driver aswell.

From there play some games and see if there has been any improvements. With Ryzen still being a new family in the CPU world, alot of games are still being optimized for it. There are BIOS updates that have also come out for stability and performance reasons.

Ok, so I flashed the mobo to the latest and update the drivers for the graphics card to the latest. Huge improvement in performance, but there is a catch. So before I was getting on average about 150 fps, and now I am on average getting about an average of 270 fps. BUT it depends on the map in csgo, and how many things are on the screen. For example, if I am on one side of the map looks towards the other side of the map then I get about 210 fps, and if I am in the middle of the map or on one side of the map looking away from everything I usually get 290 fps upwards of 300-400 (sometimes even 600 fps depending on the map) fps. With all of this being said, I personally think the Ryzen should be doing better as far as performance but I am ok with the fps I am getting now (wish it was a little higher and stable at that higher fps, but oh well).

One more questions I have is about the RAM. The RAM is currently running at 2133 Mhz, is there a way I can change it in the BIOS to run at 2400 Mhz. The RAM is perfectly fine and the mobo can handle up to 3200 Mhz OC, same as the RAM. I think it just defaulted the RAM to 2133 Mhz because that is what the BIOS told it to do. That being said, can I change it somehow? If so, how? I searched around the BIOS for a way to change it the other day and I didn't really see a way to change it.

Thanks for all your help!

I am glad to hear that performance has improved!! As far as getting even better performance that would require a combo of the developer to optimize their game for Ryzen and you messing with settings.. Nvidia and Intel do kind of rule the gaming market so most games are optimized for them. One other thing you can do, is be sure CSGO is taking use of all of your cores. You can do this in the settings and checking multi core rendering. You can also fiddle around with settings to get the most FPS aswell. (I would suggest doing some research)

Looking at other similar builds, I am sure you can optimize your settings to get overall better FPS.

As far as overclocking your RAM, that would be done from within the BIOS. How it is done varies mobo to mobo. It would be best to check your motherboard manual for directions on that.

I have multi-core rendering enabled, I usually have to tell people to enable that feature :p . I don't really know of any other option I could change to increase performace. That being said, whenever I start up my computer now when it gets to the log-in window, it freezes/is frozen/slow responsiveness until after the picture has gone up and it asks me for my password.

As for the RAM, its an ASRock X370 Taichi and in the manuals, it says that the 1st and 3rd RAM slots are Single Channels that has a what I am assuming a max Mhz or 2133. For the 2nd and 4th slots, they are Dual Channel and have a max Mhz of 2666 Mhz. I have my RAM in the 2nd and 4th slots yet they are at 2133 Mhz. I didn't see anywhere to really change it, and when I was looking in the BIOS the other day when I flashed the Mobo, I didn't see a spot for it.

Thanks,

Luke

If you need more information on what options to change, I suggest doing some research and fiddling around. As this can vary game to game. A quick google search does show a lot of different people with similar builds getting more FPS.

All slots support single channel or dual channel on your motherboard depending on how much overclocking you are doing. 2400MHz - 2667 would support dual channel. according to the manual.

Looking at the motherboard manual, it looks like you can overclock your RAM via the OC Tweaker in the UEFI/BIOS or via the A-Tuning desktop app. If you do not know how, the best solution would be to do some research or to simply leave it alone.

I understood the chart as it saying the 2nd and 4th ram slot would run the ram at 2666 Mhz as a default if the ram can run that or higher. Is that not correct?

With that question, would if it is supposed to default it to the 2666 Mhz, would it still be overclocking it?

Sincerely,

Luke

Looks like I may have misspoke/ misread the chart. My apologies.

The chart is basically saying you would need dual ranked RAM sitting in slots A2 and B2 to allow them to run at the frequency of 2400-2667 mhz. In order to get the full 3200 that your RAM supports, you would need to do so via overclocking. The motherboard does not support 3200 by default, only through overclocking.

I understand all of that. My question is: would changing the RAM on my mobo (which is already currently in slots A2 and B2 (2nd and 4th)) to 2666 Mhz make my mobo think that I am overclocking the ram? or is there just a simple way to change it without essentially overclocking it (because the mobo can handle 2666 Mhz by default)?

You will need to change it via the bios or the software provided by ASRock.
