Solved Alienware x51 R2 2 x beeps on startup

Hi

Im trying to fix my friends alienware computer when i start the computer i get 2 beeps which ive been told is a RAM issue tried 3 different cards 2 original and 1 non branded card all give me the 2 beeps (tried singly and together and in both slots)

have also tried 1 over original ram card which lets me boot the computer but only allows me into the Bios or a alienware test program which tells me Memory limit exceeded.

Ive fitted a brand new original replacment motherboard and brand new ram which give me the same results.

Harddrive has been wiped and gpu removed (before testing new board).

Im lost for what else it could be and i really want to get my friend back on his pc,

Cpu - not to sure
gpu - AMD Radeon™ R9 270/270X (not connected)
HDD - 3.5" SATA I/II/III Hard Drive
PCU - Alienware™ 240 Watt Power Supply (external)
Ram - 8gb cards DDr 3

The 2 beep codes is what i hear when i turn the pc on, i hear 2 quick beeps which repeats over and over until i turn the pc off and the bios doesnt boot and no image is displayed. which acording to alienware error codes is no ram detected.

acording to alienware/dell the only power supply they do for this model is a 240watt and a 330watt the actuall psu doesnt say anything on it to give me a clue what one it is.

No worries it was as I thought, hence the reason why I mentioned the following in my reply #2 two beeps can also mean a problem with VRAM.

In case not already aware, VRAM is the memory that is on the video card itself, the fact that the computer works using the integrated graphics supports my suspicions that it is the add on video card that is bad or most certainly involved in some way.

Did you also have the integrated graphics working on the original MB.

Hi yeah its worked on both motherboard witht he 1 ram card that lets the computer actually boot btu the system checker on the motherboard still says there is a Ram issue

Do you mean the Dells own diagnostic tool is telling you that there is a memory issue>

The add on video card needs to be tested in a another computer tbh.

yes its what ever one seems to be apart of the bios im guessing.

Sorry its the graphics thats built onto the motherboard, but seems to work fine on both motherboards with the 1 ram card which is the one that shows a fault threw the diagnostic thing the other 3 ram cards dont let me do anything as i just get the 2 fast beeps and no image

Sorry but I have absolutely no idea what you mean by the above post content so we need to get some clarity.

Forget about the add on video card for now.

Are you saying that the computer will boot up using the integrated graphics and one particular stick of RAM but if you try using anyone of the other three sticks of RAM the computer will not boot.

yes thats correct but the one ram stick that does allow the computer to boot with no warning beeps, shows a error when running a test (memory limit exceded)

Sorry im not the best at explaining hopefully this makes sense.

Can you post the brand and model name or number for each of the four sticks of RAM and starting with the stick of RAM that the computer will actually boot up with.

No rush on my behalf as I will be out for a couple of hrs as of 17.45pm UK time.

Hi mate seems to have changed a little from before but its as follows

Brand new - 8gb ddr3 1600mhz pc3-12800 cl9 1.5v (unbranded) 2 Beep error, pc wont boot

original - SK hynix 8gb 2rx8 pc3-12800u-11-12-b1 HMT41GU6AFR8C-PB NO AA. 2 Beep error, pc wont boot

original - SK hynix 8gb 2rx8 pc3-12800u-11-12-b1 HMT41GU6AFR8C-PB NO AA. pc boots error show in test - memory limit exceeded

original replacement - SK hynix 8gb 2rx8 pc3-12800u-11-12-b1 HMT41GU6AFR8C-PB NO AA. now allows pc to boot and shows no errors

Ive added everything i can see on the ram card sticker as im not 100% sure whats what on there.

Hope this is enough. i can also add some photo's/videos if need aswell.

oh wow i actually just assumed ram was ram :/ what il do is order another 1.35v ram and see how i get on with that and come back with an update soon as i can,

But thank you very much for the help so far i really appreciate it.

Will the computer boot up with the two of these sticks in the MB?

You are welcome btw :)

NB: Got an early start so going offline now, well check back tomorrow some time.

Any update for us? This thread will be closed if not replied to within 48hrs.

Solution: as per the reply #15, the computer was failing the power on self test (POST) because the OP had the wrong voltage of RAM.
