Absolutely no power to pc

So, I spilt water on my pc while it was off. I’ve verified my cpu, gpu, and ram all work by testing in my brothers computer.

I bought a new motherboard and power supply. The only thing I’m not sure if it is working are the wires for the power button on the case and any possible water in the threads that the mother board screws go into. I am getting no response when trying to start everything installed in my case. I’ve also tried jumping it on the motherboard even with just the cpu/ 24 pin plugged in and the mobo out of the case to see if just that would work.

I know the new power supply works, but the weird thing is both power supplies won’t power the motherboard or my brothers mobo but will power fans when putting a paper clip in the 24 pin in both cases.

Every component has been tested to work or is new.

I can’t even get lights on the new mobo with the new power supply with just the 24pin in.

Please help I am going to go insane soon.

Other may have more this will get you started.
but will power fans when putting a paper clip in the 24
Bad PSUs can pass the paperclip test. The true test that eliminates a PSU from the equation is a replacement or trying that same PSU in another known working machine. Only these 2 can truly rule out a PSU.

What was in there before and what is in there now.
Make and model?
Have you replaced the thermal paste completely?

Assemble everything outside of the case on a thick piece of cardboard and test. With the minimal attached to the motherboard need to run the system.

Hey thank you for the suggestions. I have tried a new PSU and assembling outside the case piece by piece

not home so I can update the exact specs later.
Old PSU: Corsair 550
New PSU: Corsair 700
Old Mobo: B450m
New Mobo B550
Cpu: Ryzen 3600x
Gpu: Rx 5600xt
Ram: g skill ripjaws 3600

Weirdest thing happened yesterday, I accidentally bumped the flash bios and saw the light flash which was my first sign of life at all. So I got the newest bios update and magically the machine turned on after going through the update process. I think this jump started the machine somehow. I’m pretty sure with this information it has to be my power switch wire from my case that does not work? Why would I not be able to short the pins to start it though?

I have a feeling my old Mobo and power supply will work just fine as well. After finding this out, I plugged the old PSU into the old Mobo and hit the bios flash and got the same reaction.

Yes it’s running I just can’t shut it down. The only way I can get it started is to do that with the bios.

I guess it has to be the power switch wire from my case that’s bad from getting wet?
Is there any way to replace that wire without getting a new case?

I just sleep it now and had to set it to wake with my keyboard in bios

You might contact the manufacture of the case and see. Some have a detachable plate that the power button is attached to.

The only way I can get it started is to do that with the bios.
That tell me that there is more going on that we thought. May be motherboard damage something else has shorted out and that would require taking it to a shop to be diagnosed.

Have you double checked that you are shorting the correct two pins.

The only way I can get it started is to do that with the bios.

Could be a bad bad setting in the BIOS, you could try removing the CMOS battery for a while and then put it back in but if you are 100% certain that you have been shorting the correct + and - pwr sw pins on the MB you may be best to stick with what you have, there is no guarantee of the MB booting should you change any of the present settings.

I am shorting them correctly, is it possible that these Mobos (b450m and b550) can’t be shorted? I haven’t changed any setting in bios other then being able to wake the computer from sleep with my keyboard since my power button doesn’t work.

That is not possible as all that shorting the pins out does is cut out the need for you to press any case power on buttons, the pins not starting up the PSU would normally suggest that the MB was bad.

Do you have a link to the board that is currently in use.

Can I ask that you do not quote every reply as we have to read the full post to make sure nothing gets missed,, thanks.

Done a pic for you to cross reference to check you are shorting the correct two pins, see the below;
