Solved A complicated problem

Hi Guys
I recently downloaded a w10 update and since then, I have had a blank screen, even though it gets as far as logging in (which I don't usually do) then the wheel turns forever, and then it goes blank.

Luckily, I have ALL my files on a memory stick for security, so I thought I would do what I had to do using my Chromebook. The only problem is, that my files are all created on Open Office, so the files cannot be opened on my Chromebook.

Any advice will be welcome, but I am thinking, the only way around it is to use somebody's PC, open up the flash drive, and convert them to Word, am I thinking correctly?
