Solved PC Randomly Stuttering

Looking online I see several sources saying PSU's should be good for around 5 years, is there anything that I could have done to cause it to fail or is it possible that something just went wrong.

PSUs have a failsafe that shut down your PC if you are stressing/overpowering it, so I doubt you did anything wrong. I would chalk up your issue to "technology is technology". You never know when it'll stop working, but when it does, you just replace it.

Before purchasing any new parts I would suggest that you ask a local tech store if they could take a look at your system, ask what it would cost first though, they may charge a small fee - they may do it for free but they will have parts available to swap in for testing purposes.

I cant reproduce the freezes and sometimes it goes over a day without happening

Difficult one for you this as you could replace the GPU, still get the problem, replace the PSU but again still get the problem.

Long shot but do you happen to know anyone that has a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) that you could borrow, being that it happens randomly the cause could be your domestic power supply spiking, connecting a UPS would keep the power going to the PC stable.

Other than the above I can only think of trying to borrow an add on video card or have yours tested in a friends computer for a day or two.

Some EVGA PSU warranty info here

Were you using the R9 GPU with the same PSU as you have now.

Not ideal for testing really but you could try the R9 even if just to see if the problem is still present when only browsing etc but not gaming.

I'll try it, cant remember exactly what system I had it in because I know I've had different systems in the past but only the one now I've built myself. I think i had it in one system then moved it to another... maybe.
