Solved BSOD

Can't imagine what we've done so far would affect the fans but something's happened. And to put the icing on top the cake I now see one of the three base fans in the case isn't moving also.

I don't know if it's fan problems or power supply problems or something else, but it's not in a good state at present.
You have tested the fan and it works ok, your PSU could potentially be 7 years old and therefore well out of warranty so looks to be the more likely culprit imo, keep in mind that in your previous thread that I mentioned the long term problems that overheating causes.

Just a thought. Can one avoid the CPU_FAN motherboard plug altogether by installing some kind of fan controller ? In which case how would it be powered ?
The MBs thermal sensor relies on the CPU cooling fan to be connected to the correct CPU fan header on the MB else it will detect the cooling fan as having failed and throw up an error and should shut down to prevent the CPU from frying.

You said you need more fan connectors. Maplins have a multi fan connector which looks like it could possibly be what your after.
This is from their UK website.

The mb doesn't seem to care that the fans aren't spinning. Took me a while to realise when it happened, it doesn't shut anything down. That stated, not using anything that graphic intensive, the wacking great heatsink limits the temperature up to a point.

Thanks, I'll check and see if I've a suitable spare power lead. Found the box for the xfx750 power supply and it seems one if the spare leads has a dual 4 pin socket that I'd need to plug in the Maplin fan connector.

Ok. Latest

I was annoyed enough to find that I'd assumed I'd need a new fan, struggled to remove it from the rubber "connectors" and only afterwards tested it to find it would run connected to a 9v battery. I should have tested first then removed it. But fate loves to mess me about and so that's not the end of the tale.

I got the connector cable Dougie suggested and have just struggled to put the fan back on the rubber "connectors" and connect it up to the new cable. That proved a pain as the pins on the connector cable seemed to want to push out the back as I inserted the socket. But it finally seemed connected.

I should say that although the connections were 3 pin, only two of each were used. I suppose that's fair enough as there isn't going to be monitoring from this new arrangement.

I turn on the PC and the fan I've put back, spins well. Then I look at the other fan on the other side of the heatsink, and it is still. I move the still fan's cable into a different one of the 4 connectors plugs. Still nothing. It's looking as if I do have a broken fan but it inevitably was the one I hadn't removed prematurely and then tested. [sigh]

I think I can leave it for now, at least one of the fans is doing it's job. I'll go back to the fan issue when I can build up the enthusiasm to rip the other fan off and replace it.

(And I'll look into the motionless case fan later too, it has other case fans running well. Wouldn't be the first that needed replacing.)

Cheers.

Meanwhile back to the BSOD issue, have we run out of options on that one ?

I only get BSODs when I play the graphic intensive game (Dragon Age Inquisition). I've lost a little enthusiasm for it at present, but I can probably get a dump for you if you require another ? Just confirm please.

(Meanwhile, re the hardware thing, I have to order 2 new fans, and one of the CPU cooler fans is running directly from the power supply using the connector DOUGIE suggested.)

Despite no one giving the go ahead, I was thinking of trying to induce the BSOD, but on second thoughts it may be better to wait until I replace the broken fans. Otherwise a temperature rise might cause a 'red herring'. Expecting receipt of replacement fans in a couple of days.

Apologies, have been meaning to get back to the game and create a BSOD, but not got around to it. The new fans are now in, perhaps not connected as originally intended but they're running. Just need to get around to it.

Update, just tried to produce it. Soon the game crashed out, smattering of marks over the screen and now that window is just white, but no full BSOD yet. DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED ??? DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG ??? It's still moaning about the driver that was agreed on in my previous thread.

Oh, and the next time it freezes and makes that continuous buzzing sound, that it may not end, or might just recover if left long enough. I'll give it 20 minutes but after that I'll have to give up until Tuesday.

No, it's still buzzing. I'll have to cycle the power and try again next week.

Another window only crash just now. DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_RESET. I may go and check the driver from the https://pchelpforum.net/t/stopping-the-win10-download-nagging.16739/page-6 thread. I think/hope it's this one https://forums.geforce.com/default/...vers/announcing-geforce-hotfix-driver-378-72/

If it is that one it looks as if something may have changed the driver. Windows claims the installed version is 22.21.13.8205 !

Have reloaded the one I think should be there.
Well that was a fat lot of good. All frozen now, and just buzzing. I'll give it a short while then recycle the power. Won't be any BSOD files though.

It is always Dragon Age Inquisition. I use it to get the dumps. Referring to which, I've now had a couple of BSODs.

Which, if it is the issue, it implies a new video card. Speedfan does show it gets warm. Reading 50°C at present and I'm not actually playing that game. But I'm unsure what I need to replace it with. Was hoping there was a less expensive fix. Or maybe that's not the issue ? http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/289257-33-acceptable-temperature

PS I have just noticed, on the last crash, the PC does moan about the CPU fan: must be because it's presently being powered directly from the power supply, not the board and thus unmonitored. CMOS settings ensures it doesn't stop though.

Now I've returned to the game the BSODs are so frequent it is way beyond a joke. I think I'll run GeForce Experience and let it update :-(

The crashes are different with the latest driver, but no real improvement. Sometimes the PC recovers with only the game window and maybe the browser failed also, but at many other times, like now, I get buzzing and everything frozen, and have to recycle the power. On those occasions neither leave any log. May go back to the other driver. Doesn't seem this is solvable then. :-(

Again, nothing to update. The old fixed driver tends to give BSODs, the most recent just freezes. Awaiting further suggestions but folk seem to have run out of ideas. I may need to find cash for a better graphics card but dread spending money I can ill afford on a random card just to find it has the same problem. Still an issue, unfortunately.

Much as mentioned last time, the situation isn't changing. It still has the issue and I think folk have come to an end of advice.
Unless there are recommendations of cards to consider. Unsure when I can get around to buying a new card though.
