In Progress Monitors losing signal while gaming?

Hi, I have recently begun to encounter this issue where after playing games for around an hour, both my monitors will suddenly turn black and lose signal, but the PC still seems to be running, but I must reset (hold down the power button) to get the monitors to working again. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I have already tried cleaning my PC, reinstalling the video drivers and messing with the power options. I have also heard it's possibly related to a malfunctioning PSU, but I'm still not sure yet and don't want to spend money changing it just for the problem not to be fixed.

Thankfully, this not currently at the level where its disturbing my work but its very frustrating to unable to spend time with my friends. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks

Hello

Did you check those temps on the gpu or the pc itself ?

Give us your complete pc spec's , including the complete psu spec's.. Also which games are you playing ?

I have a AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 8-Core Processor, 16 gb ram and a Asus Geforce RTX 3050 Dual OC 8G Graphics Card .

I have ran games while checking the temps and it was consistent with around 65 C. It started when I'm trying to run Battle Bit Remastered but it only happen once in a while but then as time goes on, it began to spread to other games as well.

What you describe is typical of something overheating.

Download then run Speccy ( free ) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

You have a few issues going on there that will involve a bit of work to correct, will wait to see if you are still around before going into any more detail other than to suggest that while you are troubleshooting you should disconnect one of your screens, having two different refresh rates will cause trouble on its own.

Hi thanks for reply, may I hear what are the issues?

Have you disconnected the second monitor.

The most time consuming problem is the present Windows installation which is often referred to as a lazy install, this because Windows was allowed to update before the MBs chipset drivers had been manually installed, this is a must and for as to why is explained in my canned info below;

Once Windows has been clean installed you must then install first the MBs chipset drivers then the storage/SATA drivers ( Not required here ) and third the graphics drivers, the drivers can either come from a disk provided by the motherboard manufacturer or downloaded from their site and saved to a flash drive etc, this is a must and Windows should not be allowed to check for updates before it has been done as more often than not Windows installs the wrong drivers or in the incorrect order and this can cause all sorts of problems.

The reason why this procedure is so important, the chipset is what enables the MB to be able to communicate with all the hardware + are the first drivers that Windows looks for on boot.

The BIOS is more than two years out of date for the CPU that you have, you have version F14 whereas version 16a should have been installed before if possible but asap after a Ryzen 7 5800X3D is/was fitted, see here

That is enough to be going on with for now.

Ok I will first do this as soon as I can and will report back once done

No worries but fwiw an explanation, you only have to deal with the one thread whereas helpers have multiple threads to deal with and across multiple forums, hence why we ask that members do not quote all or reply unless it is to provide feedback that is relative to their thread.

Hi I have successfully updated the Bios:

Too late now but you would have been better to just go straight to BIOS version 18 which includes the 16a fix.

You are still running the bad install of Windows and from a 2TB SSD which in itself is nuts, see my canned info below for as to why;

For Windows to be able to run efficiently and to be able to update you need to have between 20 and 25% of the partition or drive available on a HDD and an SSD between 10 and 15% as free storage space at all times, if you don`t you risk Windows becoming corrupt or not being able to update which puts you at risk of malware attack.

Data only storage devices should not be allowed to get any lower than 10% of free storage space of the full capacity of the drive/partition on the drive, this also to avoid data corruption.

Please note that storage devices can physically fail if the amount of free storage space is allowed to drop below the required 10 or 20/25% minimum.

Windows should always be installed on either its own drive or on a separate partition on a larger drive, this reduces the amount of free space that is required to be kept available + it makes creating a regular back a whole lot easier.

A 256GB SSD or separate partition on a larger capacity drive should be the minimum capacity allowed for.

Equally as important is being prepared for the need to upgrade to another OS, Windows 10 is nearing its end of life and extended support will cease on October 14th, 2025, when the time comes you will only have to worry about upgrading or clean installing Windows to the C: partition as opposed to needing to reinstall all of your programs and data if they were kept on a separate partition on the same drive.

Windows will also boot up quicker on its own partition as it does not need to install drivers for any third party programs.

Test the PC by gaming with just the one screen hooked up and if all good, shutdown the PC, attach the second screen, power up and again test, use the same game for both tests and to begin with any gaming should be done offline as online gaming in itself can have all sorts of problems on its own.

If you do not have any games that you play offline let us know and we will provide you with a means of doing the tests.
