I have a folder on my PC entitled 'Art & Photography' in which there are (or should be) 1160 images in alphabetical order. However when I tried to access the folder today only images up to the letter 'F' were visible. When I click on Properties it says there are only 753 images but then the amount of images starts to climb until it reaches 1160. But still I can't see any images passed the letter F.
The folder is in an external hard-drive.
Can anyone help, I really don't want to lose all those images.

I only have one PC at home so I can't connect the external hard-drive to another system. Also, what do you mean by 'disconnect the drive properly' ? Is there a particular way to do that ?

Yes so you do not corrupt the data.

Near the clock there may be a Show Hidden Icons menu
Click that you should see a

Click once on that and select Eject.
Once the drive is safe to remove, Windows will alert you with a notification pop-up titled “Safe To Remove Hardware.”

Have you tried a different USB post to see if the drive refreshes properly.

OK I did that but I did not receive any notification from Windows to tell me it's safe to remove hd. I tried a different USB port but that one doesn't even work. The USB port I normally use always goes in and out of working properly. This is maybe because I simply didn't know that there was a specific method to removing an ext hd. I usually just pull it out of the PC. I have two SanDisk usb sticks and my PC does not recognise any of them and yet the PC didn't have a problem with this the last time I connected them - some months ago - but now it has a problem with these USB sticks.

Create a new user account on the system log into that one and see if the issue replicates.
Haven't a clue what you're talking about. Wouldn't know how to go about that and even if it did duplicate, then what ? Tried an experiment though. Moved a pic from a different folder to the Art & Photography folder and then went into the folder to view the image. I couldn't see it. Tried to send a pic with the same name to the Art folder and was asked (as I hoped) which one I wanted to delete since there was already a pic with that name in the folder. So, the first pic I moved to Art & Photography is THERE but somehow I can't see it. Do you know what I mean ?

Before you create the second account can you start the system in Safe Mode and see if they USB ports and drives work.

How to add second user account

When you get to the login screen it will have the users listed in the lower left.

I've never did anything like this before on my PC but I'll give it a try. In Safe Mode how will I know if the USB ports and drives are working or not ?
