    Well it was fine from new until recently on the one antenna. Card changed and installed, aux socket used instead, only thing I haven't tried is a new/additional 2nd antenna but if I did this I would just drape it outside via a grille. Or just use ethernet wire as I don't exactly go down internet...

    @PeterOz nope, only ever been 1 antenna, connected to the 1 plug; changing advanced settings on the adapter doesn't make any difference to speed/signal strength.

    @Bruce OK I'm into the router hub settings but can't see anything where I can turn the signal strength up. @Pyro don't have a bluetooth adapter but network card was changed to no effect.     True, both old & replacement adapters have 2 sockets but there's only 1 antenna and always has been, or that's what was there when I took the back off. Plugged into socket 1 on the original. So I'm starting to think maybe it's got a break at the hinge where it gets bent every time the lid opens...

    Router has been rebooted, including when BT got involved. AS in OP, the connection is decent in the same room as the router but falls off to next to nothing with a wall in between. Didn't do it before and other devices aren't affected.
