Have you tried resetting the update components?
Open cmd prompt/Powershell/Terminal with admin & enter:
Code:
Net Stop bits
Net Stop wuauserv
Net Stop appidsvc
Net Stop cryptsvc
Ren %Systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore DataStore.bak
Ren %Systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download Download.bak
Ren %Systemroot%\System32\catroot2 catroot2.bak
Del "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat"
Net Start bits
Net Start wuauserv
Net Start appidsvc
Net Start cryptsvc
Restart the PC & try updating again.

And/or:
Search for services.msc & find Windows Update & ensure it is set to Automatic.

it won't allow me to upload to the first link?

Upload here Ufile.io and send the link in your next reply.

Or we can use these two tools if you have issues.

Please download MiniToolBox and save it to your desktop.
Run the program by right clicking on it and selecting Run as administrator.
When the program opens check mark Select All Then hit GO
Please post the log in your next reply. Attach or copy and paste, whatever is easier for you.

Download Autoruns and Autorunsc Unzip it to your desktop and then right click
Capture.PNG

Run as Admin.
After the scan is finished then click on File----Then click----Save
The default name will be autoruns.arn make sure to leave it this way.
Attach the file in your next reply.
If the file is too large, then use catbox.moe or Ufile.io and send the link in your next reply.

Also, you could get a cheap copy of windows., Vs dealing with a machine with this current issue, and possibly more.

can I not just factory reset it and install windows 10 Pro if I purchased the key...enterprise is killing me off literally can't do anything I can't update, download apps or change anything. It says I need to sign into Microsoft but I am signed in its all confusing wish I paid more attention in IT.

You can most certainly install what ever version of windows you want. Did it come with windows Pro originally? Is that the route you wish to take, or should we attempt to get this thing going?

I believe it came with windows 10 pro but don’t quote me on that I just want to be able to download apps and do updates. So any help you can provide would be most helpful please let me know if the info I uploaded was correct

First thing I would do is create a new profile on the machine.

See how that goes under the new account and get back to me,

I was given a Z440 from my uncles work its running on enterprise

The drive on that computer would normally have either been removed and destroyed or at the very least formatted with a program such as DBan or similar, regardless of the fact that the drive is still present the use of the present OS is illegal and the only people able to fix this would be the IT admin who acts for your uncle's place of work, you purchasing a legit Windows product key as you mention is 100% the correct way to go.

Factory reset what, if the PC itself that makes no difference to you clean installing Windows 10 Pro, there are two things to take into account with a factory reset though, there would need to be a pre installed HP recovery partition present + if there is a recovery partition present it may be Windows 7 or 8.

Resetting Windows itself would likewise have no bearing on you doing a clean install and using your own product key for Windows 10 Pro, if the optical drive still works purchase Windows on DVD rather than a USB, you are less likely to get scammed if you purchase a genuine unopened disk and product key.

yes its windows 7 so purchase Windows 10 and install?

Yes and while you wait for your Windows DVD to arrive you should download and save to a USB thumbdrive the drivers that you will need, you should also read my canned info below for the correct procedure to follow so as to avoid issues.

Once Windows has been clean installed you must then install first the MBs chipset drivers then the storage/SATA drivers and third the graphics drivers, the drivers can either come from a disk provided by the motherboard manufacturer ** or downloaded from their site and saved to a flash drive etc, this is a must and Windows should not be allowed to check for updates before it has been done as more often than not Windows installs the wrong drivers or in the incorrect order and this can cause all sorts of problems.
The reason why this procedure is so important, the chipset is what enables the MB to be able to communicate with all the hardware + are the first drivers that Windows looks for on boot.

** For OEM computers/notebooks such as Acer, Dell, HP and Lenovo etc you must only download drivers from their support page, OEMs may sometimes redirect users to a third party site such as AMD or Nvidea to obtain the latest drivers for their GPUs, this tends to be for high end gaming notebooks and desktops though.

We are not the Windows police but it is irrelevant whether or not it is the cause of the problem, you are using an OS that you should not be using and as per all reputable forum rules we do not assist those that have not legitimately obtained their software.

3. Discussion of or promotion of sites offering cracks, warez, torrents, pornography or any other illegal material or any software created to download any of the above will result in an immediate ban. This includes nulled, copied or any other illegal software or operating systems.

Can I ask that you do not quote every reply as we have to read the full post to make sure nothing gets missed,, thanks.

I am unable to use USBs it’s recognises it but unable to use? And sorry didn’t realise the windows was not legit company went broke and I was given this PC hope I’m not breaking the law ??

As per my reply #13 and notably the below highlighted in red;

Resetting Windows itself would likewise have no bearing on you doing a clean install and using your own product key for Windows 10 Pro, if the optical drive still works purchase Windows on DVD rather than a USB, you are less likely to get scammed if you purchase a genuine unopened disk and product key.

You are intending to correct the present issue using legitimate means so don`t worry about any legal issues, the present OS product key ceased to be legit once the company went bust because business and education versions of Windows have what are called volume licence keys or VLKs for short, these are multiple installations of Windows on numerous computers that all use the same product key, all computers concerned are subject to the same restrictions.
